Position Summary

The University of New Mexico is seeking a dynamic individual to join the Department of Crisis Management and Preparedness as the Coordinator of its Threat Assessment Team (TAT) for students, faculty, staff and visitors of the University of New Mexico (UNM) and the function of Campus Assessment Response Education (CARE) for staff and faculty.

The TAT is a multi-disciplinary group of trained employees from various UNM departments that analyzes potential threats of violence, seeks to deescalate situations, and implements positive changes to mitigate risks while providing appropriate assistance to both victims and individuals of concern. The team meets regularly and evaluates reports of threatening behavior, individuals in distress or those in need of support.

Cases handled by the TAT range from threats to the need for CARE resources or behavioral interventions, with an ultimate goal of de-escalation and resolution, sometimes necessitating the establishment of behavioral expectations.
The team serves as a vital resource for the promotion of safety, well-being, and a conducive learning environment for the UNM community by managing behaviors that disrupt the learning environment and providing guidance to faculty and staff on how to support students exhibiting such behaviors.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Plans, coordinates, and serves as chairperson for TAT/CARE meetings. Serves as primary liaison to staff, faculty, students for community resources to assist students in need.
  • Assists impacted parties in navigating the nuances of University policy, classroom behavior management, mental health issues including accommodations, and protocols related to health and safety concerns.
  • Communicates comfortably with individuals in crisis or distress.
  • Monitors and analyzes public CARE reports in real time for acuity and necessary response. Collaborates with the case manager in tracking, investigating, and documenting for follow up and outreach.
  • Administers and collaborates with resources to conduct wellness checks for severe instances of risks of self-harm to individuals and coordinates ongoing support for them.
  • Develops action plans for CARE and tracks University actions.
  • Evaluates TAT/CARE cases for lessons learned and improved best practices.
  • Produces promotional materials and marketing for TAT/CARE services.
  • Conduct campus-wide training related to behavioral assessment, behavioral management, response, and reporting.
  • Assists in the creation and implementation of University policies and procedures related to TAT/CARE.
  • Develops strategic goals and objectives related to the procedural and strategic improvement of TAT/CARE case management efforts.
  • Gathers relevant information needed for a threat assessment.

Conditions of Employment

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree; at least 3 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.

Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.



Preferred Qualifications
  • A bachelor's
    degree in counseling, social work, higher education, college student
    affairs, or related field
  • Clinical mental
    health licensure (LMHC, LADAC, LPCC, LCSW)
  • Direct
    experience in case management, social work, counseling, residence life and
    on-campus student housing, student conduct, or student affairs is strongly
    preferred.
  • Familiarity
    with legal issues impacting students, staff and faculty at a University
