Position Summary
Organization: Museum of the American Military Family & Learning Center Location:201 Eubank NE Ste3A, Albuquerque, NM 87123 An Off-Campus Work-Study Position - MUST have a Work-Study Award. The Museum of the American Military Family & Learning Center (MAMF) is a small, local, nationally-recognized award-winning museum dedicated to preserving American military family history. The Museum offers a variety of in-person and virtual programs nationally and internationally throughout the year. MAMF is led by an all-volunteer board of directors and provides an excellent opportunity for a work-study student to get practical hands-on experience in many aspects of museum operations.
MAMF has a diverse collection of artifacts dating from pre-American Revolutionary War to present. MAMF also publishes anthologies, theatrical plays, and scholarly books. MAMF hosts a podcast and produces seven blogs. Currently in transition, the museum has relocated some of its collection from long-term storage into an interim workspace in Albuquerque.

MAMF Workspace Manager Duties & Responsibilities The ideal candidate will:
The Big Picture Have the desire to work as part of team to grow a grassroots museum Familiarize self with military/family culture and learn the back-stories/significance of the artifacts Seek opportunities to collaborate with other cultural, community, military-connected, and educational organizations to expand and diversify the museum's audience, extend the museum's reach, and advance its mission and interests Participate in MAMF planning/initiatives Keep current on best practices in the museum profession and apply them at MAMF
Responsibilities: Follow MAMF policies and procedures Work onsite so that MAMF can be open to the public by appointment. (Schedule TBD part-time hours-16-weekdays or weekends.) Accept and process donated artifacts Organize, maintain and display artifacts in Workspace Interact with visitors and researchers Work with MAMF volunteers, board members, and interns Catalog artifacts into PastPerfect computer database Write a quarterly article, other content for member newsletters Write a monthly blog post for one of the MAMF blogs Build and keep MailChimp email lists up to date. Send out periodic mailing through MAMF Mail Chimp database Provide monthly reports and other reports and statistics as requested
Shared Tasks: With Executive Director: Develop and help implement marketing efforts for museum/programs. Develop/establish artifact and library collections policy/guidelines Serve as an administrator on MAMF FB, Instagram, and Pinterest Responsible for periodically sending out e-newsletters/marketing campaigns With Volunteers/board members: Perform minor cleaning (e.g., dusting, vacuuming, straightening/dusting artifacts) With Interns: Work cooperatively and provide guidance to interns who are doing other projects
Minimum Qualifications
Enrolled in a degree seeking program at UNM, Enrolled at least half-time (6 hours) at UNM for fall and spring semesters (Audit hours do not count), and if Work Study, you must meet Satisfactory Academic Progress.
Preferred Qualifications
Qualifications Education: (Enrolled in B.S./B.A ideally M.S/M.A. in museum studies, history, library, or related field) Professional, enthusiastic, and self-motivated Excellent decision-making skills Ability to work independently, sometimes without clear direction Excellent communication (both written and verbal) and interpersonal skills Energetic and outgoing personality Empathetic, compassionate, and diplomatic Ability to deal with people with diverse viewpoints Knowledge of preserving historic documents and artifacts Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook) Proficiency in PastPerfect Cataloguing software Working knowledge of LibraryThing, Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest and WordPress Physical ability to climb stairs, bend, reach and lift to 30 pounds BONUS: (but not mandatory) Have a military/military family connection
