GENERAL FUNCTION

Lead role in the kilogram-scale manufacture of specialty chemicals including dyes and dye intermediates for use by both internal and external customers.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES



  • Specialty chemical production on kilogram scales
  • Chemical apparatus set-up, reactor loading (solvents, raw materials) and unloading
  • Chemical process monitoring and control
  • Crude product purification (crystallization, chromatography, rotary evaporation, solvent recovery)
  • Spectroscopy (ultraviolet, visible, infrared, NMR) and Data Analysis
  • Quality control
  • Record keeping (Laboratory notebooks, Certificates of Analysis)
  • Chemical equipment preventive maintenance and repair (Reactors, Evaporators, Pumps, etc.)
  • Reporting (Standard Operating Procedures, Production reports)
  • Compliance with safety and environmental regulations (OSHA, EPA) and internal practices
  • Regulatory Compliance
  • Support both R&D and Manufacturing in safety and environmental compliance
  • Support internal and external customers in safety and environmental compliance
  • Support corporate ES&H initiatives


BASIC QUALIFICATIONS



  • Bachelor's degree in chemistry, chemical engineering, or related field
  • Certifications: None required
  • Experience: 2 years of industrial experience or equivalent
  • Expertise in handling chemicals and chemical equipment
  • Expertise with running analytical instruments including GC, UV/Vis spectrometers
  • Expertise with Microsoft Office applications-- Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Familiarity with EPA (TSCA), OSHA (including HazCom), ECHA/REACH beneficial


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS



  • Master's degree, Organic Chemistry or Bachelor's degree with 4 years of industrial experience
  • Expertise in handling chemicals and chemical equipment on kilogram scales
  • Expertise in maintaining an NMR spectrometer and interpreting NMR spectra
  • Expertise with maintaining analytical instruments including GC, UV/Vis spectroscopy
  • Familiarity with SciFinder and SAP

Employee pay is determined by multiple factors, including geography, experience, qualifications, skills and local minimum wage requirements.
