Job Description
This position is responsible for configuration and deployment support, as well as, system management functions and includes troubleshooting and design/implementation associated with ASTRO 25, WAVE VOIP and adjacent technologies for Federal, State and Local government agencies requiring highly secure, easily managed, mission critical IP networks. This position reports to the Onsite Senior Field Services Team Manager. The System Technologist position is an onsite, dedicated position that works directly with the public safety customer in Calvert County, MD.
- Provide daily on-site technical support, ensuring best practices are followed for the design, implementation, operation, and maintenance of ASTRO 25 networks and related technologies.
- Support Operations and Maintenance activities for ASTRO 25 networks and adjacent technologies
- Support technical architecture designs for ASTRO 25 and adjacent technologies
- Collaborate with Sales, Customer Service Managers, Senior Field Services Team Managers, and the System Integration team to define strategy, direction, and implementation plans for ASTRO 25 networks and adjacent technologies.
- Create/update system documents and drawings, work plans, managed service offerings, MOPs and SOPs, etc. as required.
- Support third-party vendor equipment.
- Work with third party vendors/contractors to ensure delivery of requirements set forth by the design.
- Act in the capacity of a member of the on-site technical staff in best practices for design, implementation, and O&M activities.
- Support Operations and Maintenance activities for ASTRO 25 subscribers and adjacent technologies.
- Provide preventative maintenance services on Motorola subscribers including APX mobiles and portables.
- Programming of Motorola subscriber devices using supplied codeplugs (minimal codeplug creation/alterations required) using Motorola CPS.
- Troubleshoot, repair, install, maintain, align, and program Motorola handheld subscriber units (APX6000/8000 and KVL 3000/5000)
Candidate Experience:
- Ability to understand and/or learn troubleshooting and assessment of subscriber radios
- Familiarity with ASTRO 25 Conventional wide-area voice and data systems including OTAR/OTAP and Radio Management.
- Ability to understand and/or learn MSI Managed Support & Services processes, products, and network management solutions
- Ability to understand and/or learn troubleshooting and assessment of live networks
- Awareness of routing protocols: BGP, OSPF, ISIS and others as needed
- Awareness of ASTRO 25 Conventional wide-area voice and data systems including OTAR/OTAP, MoM, and cyber technologies (CAC-PIV)
- Familiarity with LAN switching protocols
- Familiarity with Manufacture Hardware: Juniper, Nokia, HP, Fortinet
- Awareness of different media types: Metro Ethernet, Frame-Relay, Ethernet, SONET
- Awareness of physical layers such as: Fiber, Copper, Microwave.
- Experience in scripting/programming is a plus.
- Experience with Microsoft Visio, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Google Applications required
- Experience with use of command line and/or GUI interfaces to provision equipment is a plus
- Familiarity with Network Management Applications a plus: Solarwinds, JUNO-Space, Nokia SAM/NFM-P, Provision
- Self motivated, excellent written and oral communication skills, and strong interpersonal skills.
- Collaborates effectively with colleagues, customers, and third-party service providers to foster strong working relationships.
Location/Travel:
- The Onsite System Technologist MUST live within a one hour commutable distance from Calvert County, MD.
- The position is an onsite, dedicated System Technologist position that works directly onsite with the public safety customer in Calvert County, MD.
Additional Requirements:
- Must be a U.S. citizen with the ability to obtain necessary security clearance as required by government contracts
- Must be willing to obtain a DHS Public Trust Clearance
- The role entails providing on-premises support to our valued customers in Calvert County, MD.
- Legal authorization to work in the U.S. indefinitely is required. Employer work permit sponsorship is not available for this position.
The salary range for the position in Maryland is $80,000 - $100,000. This position is subject to working in high security areas governed by the US Department of Justice's "Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) Security Policy" and therefore requires successfully passing a more stringent fingerprint background check administered by Motorola Solutions Inc. customers. #LI-CC1
Basic Requirements
High School/GED and 4+ years experience in one of the following: IP Networking, Network Engineering, Solution Architecture, ASTRO 25, P25, WAVE VOIP, LMR, RF Systems, Radio Frequency, Radio Communications, Wired/Wireless Communication Systems, Motorola equipment, IT, IT Systems, Telecommunications, Public Safety, Engineering, Networking, Solutions Architecture, or Military experience Must be a U.S. citizen with ability to obtain necessary security clearance as required by government contract(s) Legal authorization to work in the U.S. indefinitely is required. Employer work permit sponsorship is not available for this position.
