Job Summary

The UC Davis Cancer Care Network (CCN) is a national model for optimizing integrated, collaborative cancer care. The Cancer Care Network extends the UC Davis NCI-Designated Comprehensive Cancer Center to community cancer centers throughout Northern and Central California providing leadership, clinical care, research, clinical trials and education for diverse communities. The Cancer Care Network has two LLC sites, one LLC satellite campus and three affiliate campuses. The CCN is in the process of adding several additional LLC sites to its portfolio in Northern California. The Director for the Cancer Care Network is responsible for the leadership and administration of the LLC and affiliate hospital relationships in the UC Davis Cancer Care Network. The Director oversees the fiscal management of the LLCs and ensures the UC Davis Comprehensive Cancer brand, clinical standards and quality of care extends to each LLC and affiliate relationship. The Director of the Cancer Care Network is responsible for the management and administration of all facets of the Cancer Care Network including all federal/state regulatory compliance requirements. The Director is responsible for the oversight of financial analysts, quality and data analysts, billing & coding staff, and education staff. The Director works in partnership with the Medical Director for the oversight of employed physicians. The incumbent assesses new Cancer Care Network site and program proposals and works with the Executive Director of Oncology Services, Physician-in-Chief and Regional Affiliations office to provide direction on program design, implementation and operations in the clinical setting. As new sites and programs are planned, the incumbent reviews the clinic staff organization structure for appropriate and efficient utilization of positions to meet patient care and Cancer Care Network performance goals. The incumbent leads clinic process design initiatives to increase clinic efficiencies improve financial performance and enhance patient and physician satisfaction. The incumbent works in close partnership with the Executive Director of Oncology Services, Medical Director of the Cancer Care Network, Physician-in-Chief of the Comprehensive Cancer Center, Clinical Director of Oncology Services, Regional Affiliations Officer, local hospital and cancer center leadership, and local medical directors of each hospital/cancer center in this matrixed role. The Director for the Cancer Care Network reports to the Executive Director of Oncology Services. Working closely with the Clinical Director of Oncology Services, this position is a critical member of the Oncology Services leadership team.

  • Must have bachelor's degree (Master's preferred) in a related disciplinary field such as Health Administration, Business Administration or Nursing. If Master's degree is not completed, applicant must complete within 3 years of hire.
  • Minimum of 5-7 years of progressive leadership experience (healthcare leadership/business development experience preferred).
  • Must have several years of management experience and demonstrated skills necessary to be responsible for the identification, monitoring and maintenance of departments financial, human, and facility resources.
  • Professional effectiveness as demonstrated by the ability to establish clear and challenging goals, and develop effective, realistic long- and short-range plans, maintain information, schedules and systems in an organized fashion, exercise reason and sound judgment to make popular and unpopular decisions, using a broad perspective and building consensus, and use initiative, vision, and creativity to take on new task and generate innovative ideas, approaches and solutions.
  • Negotiation and persuasion skills to create collaborative relationships representatives from different departments with diverse missions and needs.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Possess the management, operational and regulatory healthcare administration knowledge and experience, and ability to learn UCDH operations in order to be effective resource to clinic managers, providers, and staff.
  • Communication skills to effectively convey information, concepts, instructions, and ideas in oral and written formats to a variety of audiences with diverse backgrounds, agendas, and levels of knowledge and expertise.

Work Environment

UC Davis is a smoke and tobacco free campus effective January 1, 2014.
