Job Summary

The Staff Research Associate 3 or Manufacturing Technician for the Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) Facility supports Departmental goals through the performance of safe and efficacious gene therapy vector, cellular, gene therapy product, pharmaceutical product manufacturing and evaluation with additional implementation of new procedures, methods or instruments, scholarly publications, quality control and quality assurance. The research associate should have tissue culture experience (human cell line and stem cell preferred) in order to be trained in GMP grade culture of continuous human cell lines, multi potent stem cells including mesenchymal stromal cells (MSC), hematopoietic stem cells (HSC) and pluripotent stem cells such as human embryonic stem cells (hESC) and induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSC). Human cell lines will also be used as producer cells for the manufacturing of gene therapy vectors including lentiviral, retroviral, and adeno-associated viral (AAV) vectors. Experience in gene therapy vector manufacturing is extremely valuable as the research associate will be manufacturing and purifying vectors under GMP conditions.

Minimum Qualifications - For full consideration, applicants are encouraged to upload license and/or certification if required of the position

  • Master of Science Degree and/or a combination of experience, education and/or training required.
  • Science Lab Administration experience.
  • Tissue Culture experience.
  • Communication skills required to coordinate and verify results, monitor for completeness and accuracy.
  • Knowledge of computer word processing, data management, and spreadsheet software.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with GMP manufacturing of drug formulations and GMP storage of such drug formulations.
  • Knowledge and practical experience with manufacturing GMP grade Human Induced Pluripotent Stem Cells (iPSC) and Human Embryonic Stem Cells (hESC).
  • Knowledge of Standard Operating Procedures and Quality Control requirements in a GMP laboratory setting.
  • Knowledge of proper product documentation and labeling at a GMP level.

Department Overview

The Good Manufacturing Practice Facility (GMP) is a large manufacturing operation within the Institute of Regenerative Cures under the Stem Cell Research umbrella at UC Davis. The purpose of the GMP is to manufacture quality clinical grade stem cell and other cellular therapy products, gene therapy products, pharmaceutical products, and formulations for novel or routine patient treatments and clinical trials ad to perform scholarly research and development when appropriate. The research associate for this position will support these goals by advancing translational research to clinical cell therapies through their work within the Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) Facility.

Work Environment
