Description

This position is responsible for educating and counseling members and prospective members seeking FHA and conventional real estate loans to advance Blaze growth objectives through the Preferred Way of Selling. This position is also responsible for completing the loan application, gathering the necessary paperwork and prequalifying members to facilitate the loan origination process. Branch Mortgage Loan Officer's must also exemplify superior member service and build positive member relationships. This position also acts as a resource to the credit union staff and members by displaying knowledge and expertise in the real estate field. The home base of the Branch Mortgage Loan officer will be Blaze's Mora branch, but they will also float to the Isle and Pine City branches.

Major Duties and Responsibilities

Facilitates the real estate lending process to deliver Blaze products, promote positive member relationships and meet Blaze's mortgage lending objectives.

  • Interview loan applicants in branch and over the phone: prepare applications by collecting and completing necessary information for loan submission and send out all disclosures (within 3 business days of application); run loans through secondary market underwriting system for initial decision.
  • Inform members of Blaze loan products and discuss options (rates, projections, payment schedule, etc.); recommend appropriate products and terms, and solicit additional products they qualify for per underwriting.
  • Obtain additional information from the member, run debt ratio, analyze credit, and calculate or verify income to meet the underwriter's request and contact member to go over rate, term, rescission, promo, credit bureau and lock the mortgage with the investor.
  • Pre-qualifies members on their maximum loan amount qualifications.
  • Advise applicants of initial underwriting decision, provide advice on counteroffers.
  • Re-price real estate loans based on any changes to loan scenario and send out appropriate disclosures.
  • Work with the Mortgage Loan Processor to facilitate the loan process by informing members on the status of their loan file and answering any real estate lending related questions.
  • Recommend, consult, and sell Blaze products and services to maintain an active pipeline of real estate loans through company generated leads and referral sources.
  • Identify members' financial needs and market appropriate products and services to ensure member's financial needs and Blaze's growth objectives are met and maintain acceptable application to close ratio.
  • Record the referrals for future reference and follow up contact including correspondence and telephone referral.
  • Initiate contact or follow up on all leads in a timely basis with outbound calls and or correspondence.
  • Provide support to the real estate department to ensure department efficiency.

Other Duties

  • Comply with applicable laws and regulations, including but not limited to, the Bank Secrecy Act, the Patriot Act, and the Office of Foreign Assets Control
  • Exhibit Blaze's 5A culture - Ambassador, Achievement, Ambition, Ability and Attitude
  • Regular and predictable attendance
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support effective department operation.

Requirements

Experience/Education/Certifications/Licenses

  • High School degree or equivalent.
  • 2-3 years similar or related financial experience or equivalent.
  • Required to obtain or possess a Mortgage Loan Originator (MLO) qualifier (i.e. registration number)

Demonstrated Knowledge

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Computer skills including Microsoft products.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple tasks.
  • Knowledge of Encompass a plus.
  • Previous sales experience a plus.

Communication Skills

Ability to proactively respond to members/associates to problem solve based on guidelines; written communications are based on templates but can be modified.

Physical Requirements

Ability to sit and stand; answer calls; operate computer; interact with internal associates and members on the phone; travel to designated offices; lift up to 20 lbs.

We are committed to providing salary ranges for all open positions. Please note that the specific compensation for this role will be determined based on your experience, qualifications, location, and internal equity considerations.

The salary range for this position is: $21.31 - $24.00. This range reflects the base salary for this position. We have other benefits associated with this position which include: low-cost medical (as low as $20 a paycheck), dental insurance, vision insurance, quarterly bonuses, generous vacation and sick time hours, paid leave options, up to 6% 401k contribution, and tuition reimbursement.
