About the Job
Overview UMD Intercollegiate Athletics is seeking an Assistant Football Coach. The incumbent will provide support to the head coach in maintaining a highly competitive and successful Division II football program in a manner compatible with the department and University philosophy, and in compliance with NCAA and conference rules and regulations.
Coaching Duties
- Support student-athletes by fostering a positive team culture and supporting mental wellness.
- Establish and maintain effective relationships within the athletic department, the University, community, booster clubs, alumni, high school coaches, media and the general public. Represent in a positive fashion the University and its athletic programs in private and public forums. Commit to adhering to all rules and regulations.
- Instruct and teach student athletes in the fundamentals of football sport technique and strategy.
- Assist in monitoring the academic performance of student athletes to help them achieve full potential.
- Plans and execute practice and competition plans including evaluation of opponents.
- Evaluate and recruit qualified student athletes to UMD whose athletic skills make them highly competitive and whose academic abilities make them good candidates for our student population.
- Perform administrative responsibilities, including assisting in budget planning and management Provide opportunities for student athletes to develop life and leadership skills.
- Establish and maintain effective relationships with all stakeholders of the University, Athletic Department and community.

- Serves as an integral part of achieving fundraising, budget and community service goals
- Support the UMD athletics mission of excellence in the Classroom, Community and Competition.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
- BA/BS degree is required.
- 1-3 years combined progressive experience coaching at the high school, collegiate or professional level.
- Experience coaching on either the offensive or defensive side of the football.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Working knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations.
- Commitment to athletic excellence in an academic environment.
- Experience as a student-athlete.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate both written and verbally.
- Experience in working with diverse populations.
- Experience organizing alumni social events.
- Knowledge of UMD football history.
Pay and Benefits
Pay Range: $45,000 - $56,000; depending on education/qualifications/experience Time Appointment: 75%-100% Appointment Position Type: Faculty and P&A Staff Please visit the Office of Human Resources website for more information regarding benefit eligibility.
