THE POSITION

DESCRIPTION OF WORK

In this position, you will be responsible for developing work plans, estimates, and schedules while overseeing maintenance activities, which encompass roadway widening, construction, patching, small bridge upkeep, guide rail installation, roadside signage, shoulder cutting, crack and joint sealing, and snow removal. You will also provide recommendations for the effective allocation of equipment, personnel, and materials to achieve program objectives and ensure customer satisfaction with the outcomes. Your duties will include reviewing and adjusting scheduled work based on SAP reports, initial planning notes, weather conditions, inventory assessments, equipment availability, period plans, weekly plans, and relevant highway materials data to ensure efficient operations. Additionally, you will inspect ongoing and completed work to ensure compliance with Department standards, regional practices, and the original work intent, thereby certifying that all tasks meet ethical standards. You will also initiate and support initiatives aimed at developing and implementing enhanced work methods and materials.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment
  • Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch
  • This position may be eligible for alternate work schedule (AWS), upon successful completion of probationary period.
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Three years as a Highway Foreman 2; or
  • Five years of technical experience in highway maintenance or highway construction; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training.

Special Requirement:
  • This position requires possession of a valid PA non-commercial Class C driver's license or equivalent.
