Description The Administrative Manager will work collaboratively with the Office of Admissions & Patient Registration, the multidisciplinary healthcare team and the
hospital leadership team to facilitate an efficient and timely patient flow process throughout Children's National Medical Center and the metropolitan Washington area community. All nursing practice is based on the legal scope of practice, national and specialty nursing standards, CNMC Policies and Procedures, and in accordance with all applicable laws and regulations. The Professional Model of Care requires registered professional nurses to be responsible and accountable for their own practice. CNMC supports the development of RN relationships within the community; specifically those relationships associated with the health and well being of the community at large.
Qualifications Minimum Education
Bachelor's Degree Nursing required. (Required)

Functional Accountabilities
Patient Placement
  • Work collaboratively with unit management and hospital physician attendings and residents to assign bed placements and minimize unnecessary patient transfers.
  • Facilitate early identification of discharges/transfers and guide Bed Control personnel in the placement of patients throughout the hospital.
  • Communicate with Washington area physicians and institutions as well as hospital departments to provide a smooth, caring and efficient process for patients and families.
Collaborate
  • Work collaboratively with the medical and nursing teams to identify patients for discharge through contact with attendings and chief residents to facilitate discussion of case management of patients.
  • Meet with attending physicians of services with special needs for patient placement to identify bed placement in advance of admission and prevent unnecessary delays at the time of admission.
  • Work with Nurse Administrator On Call and unit managers for problem solving "high Census" situations thereby reducing delays in admissions and facilitate discharges as early as possible.
  • Collaborate with unit managers, attending and resident physicians, Hospital Administrator On Call and Medical Attending On Call to resolve placement of patients and notification of appropriate resources for additional beds and staff if needed.
Communication
  • Utilize effective communication skills to coach, develop, and guide staff carrying out their roles as demonstrated by: (a) modeling positive communication styles for the staff to ensure best possible outcomes, and (b) demonstrating own personal communication style that reflects direct, open, professional, and responsible exchange of ideas.
  • Communicate unit staffing concerns to the unit manager.
  • Assist staff in understanding and implementing CNMC policies as needed.
Problem Solving
  • Analyze complex problem situations and utilize a variety of approaches to address issues and concerns.
  • Accurately identify situations which require emergent or urgent responses and provide effective directions to staff in those situations; communicate issues to the appropriate level of leadership in the organization to ensure a coordinated approach to problem solving; utilize and assign staffing resources appropriately in difficult staffing situations.
Relationship Management
  • Serve as a senior administrative officer in the absence of the executive staff and department heads on the off-shifts, weekends, and holidays.
  • Serve as a front-line consumer advocate for all patients, families to reflect the CNMC commitment to customer service and satisfaction.
  • Refer consumers to appropriate resources to maintain and/or promote positive consumer relations, respecting patient and family privacy through collaboration with the Department of Public Affairs & Marketing in the event of a known public emergency/event.
  • Effectively utilize employee relations principles to resolve employee relation issues as well as interpreting employee relations policies.
  • Resolve issues as they occur and collaborate with the service Director, Human Resources staff, Legal Services.
  • Promote an environment which respects the unique contributions of staff.
Professional Practice/Research
  • Participate in Shared Leadership.
  • Contribute to CNMC's Magnet Journey.
  • Ensure nursing practice is based on evidence of best practice.
  • Accountable to participate in the Division of Nursing's Performance Improvement process (division or unit level).
