Wages

$21.00 - $22.00 per hour

Benefits

Paid Earned Sick and Safe Time (ESST); COPAL sponsors a retirement plan with 4% employer match plus a 2% employer contribution after one year of service and immediate vesting.

Schedule

This is a short-term position ending at the end of April 2025.

A Typical Day in the Life...

A typical day as COPAL's Health Promoter Family Liaison provides an opportunity to support and empower families by providing them with the necessary resources, guidance, and advocacy to help their children succeed academically and socially, and will include the following:



  • Connecting families with vaccination and other community resources and services, such as healthcare, counseling, housing, and financial assistance.
  • Providing information and making referrals to relevant support services.
  • Advocating on behalf of families to ensure their needs and concerns are being addressed.
  • Assisting families in navigating school policies, procedures, and systems.
  • Translating and interpreting communication for non-English speaking families, if applicable.
  • Conducting outreach to recruit families for vaccination and other health and wellness programs.
  • Maintaining accurate records of interactions with community members, tracking program progress, measuring indicators, and using this information to inform future planning and decision-making.
  • Listening actively, communicating with empathy, and gathering information in a respectful manner.
  • Building relationships with local schools that have a higher percentage of Latino students.
  • Collaborating with community partners, such as local clinics, mental health resources, and housing services to provide programs and workshops.
  • Building a directory of ten or more local schools in the region.
  • Participating in community school events.
  • Scheduling and following up on interviews with school liaisons.
  • Working with the local COPAL's Health Promoter to plan and coordinate programs and workshops for parents on topics such as back-to-school readiness, health and wellness, and community fairs.
  • Collaborating with school staff and community organizations to create family engagement initiatives.



Who You Are



  • You are fluent in both Spanish and English.
  • You have at least two years of experience in family support services, social work, or a related field.
  • Preferably, you have experience working in a school setting or in advocacy.
  • You have previous experience in community work or health promotion.
  • You can establish relationships and assist in resolving individual and group conflicts.
  • You have knowledge of community resources and services.
  • You can plan and organize community events and activities and are skilled in group facilitation.
  • You are committed to health equity and cultural humility.
  • You understand social determinants of health and health disparities.
  • You have a thorough understanding of nonprofit practices, a serious work ethic, and a desire to work in a team-oriented environment.
  • You have knowledge and experience with diverse groups of people of lower socioeconomic conditions.
  • You are competent in MS Office: Word, Access, Publisher, Outlook, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • You possess strong organizational and communication skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • You can travel to sites within a 50-mile radius of the office.
  • You have a valid driver's license, access to reliable transportation, and the ability to meet COPAL's driving record requirements. Please note that if the license was not issued in the state of Minnesota, you have 60 days after becoming a Minnesota resident in which to apply for your Minnesota driver's license or permit.
