GENERAL SUMMARY: Under the supervision of the Director, Nurse Manager, or staff nurse, the Certified Kidney Dialysis Technician performs various duties to assist in the treatment and care of ESRD patients in accordance with established policies and procedures of the Medical Center. The Dialysis Technician performs those direct care activities which are allowed to be delegated to unlicensed personnel under the NYS Practice Act, regulations, hospital policies, and standards met by Nursing Services. The Certified Kidney Dialysis Technician also performs support functions for the unit/department as assigned by the appropriate Registered Nurse and/or manager. He/She is responsible to provide support and assistance to the medical and nursing staff to assure a coordinated patient experience. They will maintain dialysis certification. Duties may include, but are not limited to cannulation of dialysis access, initiating dialysis treatments, monitoring of patient treatment, discontinuing patient treatments, obtaining supplies and equipment necessary before, during and after a dialysis procedure, provide patient care under the direct supervision of an RN, assisting with station turnover, assisting with a variety of therapeutic interventions, participating in the dialysis care under the supervision of a Registered Nurse, and cleaning, stocking, and organizing the dialysis treatment area and all support areas. They must be reliable, work independently, be highly organized, capable of anticipating where assistance is needed and work well with people. They must meet the unique demands of a fast paced, dialysis environment meeting quality outcomes in an economically viable and customer friendly way. AHA-BLS certification is required however, certification is not a qualifying factor to obtain the position. QUALIFICATIONS: Education/Skills Required: 1.High school graduate. As applicable, the individual has training/competency in attending to the special needs and/or behaviors appropriate to the age of the patients for which care is being provided. |
