Summary of Job Duties:The Associate Director for Employee Relations is responsible for designing, planning, and implementing the university's employee relations program, policies, and procedures. This position is responsible for processing grievances, responding to EEOC claims, and conducting investigations related to allegations of unlawful discrimination and Whistleblower complaints. This position is responsible for assisting the Title IX Director with the overall implementation of Title IX for the university. This position acts as the University's ADA Coordinator. This position is governed by state and federal laws, and agency/institution policy. Qualifications:

Required Education and/or Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree;
  • Four (4) years of human resources, employee relations, or related investigation experience, including but not limited to Title VI, Title VII of the Civil Rights Act, Title IX of the Education Amendment Act, Americans with Disabilities;
  • Experience in participating in employee complaints and grievance processes.

Preferred Education and/or Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Public Administration, Psychology, or Sociology;
  • Master's degree;
  • Four (4) years of human resources, or employee relations experience;
  • Two (2) years of supervisory experience;
  • Experience with processing EEOC complaints;
  • Experience with Title IX investigations;
  • Experience working in higher education.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Receive, investigate, and mediate employee complaints with regard to all discriminatory actions within the UA Little Rock community;
  • Prepare statistical analysis of UA Little Rock's recruitment and retention of minority staff, faculty, and administrators for the University's Minority Recruitment and Retention Report;
  • Provide scheduled updates to the Chancellor, Vice Chancellor for Finance and Administration, and General Counsel on grievances, and EEOC complaints;
  • Assist the CHRO with compiling workforce analysis related to employment and equal opportunity, and assist with maintaining and/or updating UALR's affirmative action plan;
  • Conduct employment law research and stay abreast of national trends related to discrimination and related state and federal laws and regulations and monitor university policies and procedures accordingly;
  • Assist with the data collection and filing of Annual Reports as established by federal/state guidelines;
  • Effectively present information and conduct scheduled and on-demand employee training on areas of responsibilities;
  • Serves as the University's ADA Coordinator for employees by facilitating the ADA interactive process with employees and supervisors to determine reasonable accommodations;
  • Assist Title IX Director with efforts to ensure compliance with Title IX by coordinating and ensuring timely completion of the university's response and investigation of complaints to Title IX;
  • Review and recommend updates to policies related to civil rights laws, Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO), and grievance process;
  • Attend workshops and meetings pertaining to areas of responsibility;
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledge of relevant state and federal human resources laws, policies, and procedures and ability to interpret and apply state and federal laws and regulations;
  • Ability to interpret and apply state and federal laws and regulations; as well as, UA Board, UA Systemwide, and University policies and procedures;
  • Ability to use a high degree of discretion and maintain confidential information;
  • Ability to exercise independent judgment;
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid objective conclusions;
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite;
  • Ability to effectively compose and edit correspondence, reports, statistical analysis, and other documents;
  • Ability to review and analyze civil rights compliance requirements;
  • Ability to organize and present clear and concise oral and written reports of findings and recommendations;
  • Ability to plan and organize investigatory activities;
  • Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing;
  • Possess excellent listening skills;
  • Ability to manage time and workload effectively, which includes planning, organizing, and prioritizing with attention to detail;
  • Possess familiarity with the field's concepts and practices;
  • Ability to work independently.

Additional Information:

Salary Information:

$65,000 - $70,000
