Overview
We seek a positive and talented individual to join our team as a Purchasing Agent II. Utah State University's Purchasing and Contract Services offers a collaborative work environment, competitive salary, and a benefits package that includes medical/dental coverage, a 14.2% contribution into a 401(a) retirement plan, 22 days of paid vacation leave and 12 days of paid sick leave per year, 13 paid holidays, and more.

This position will be responsible to obtain pricing through various procurement processes for a variety of commodities and services; research the marketplace to identify new vendors and stay updated on pricing trends. The individual may advise on contract terms and conditions as well as policies and procedures. They will also review and sign certain contracts related to purchases.

Responsibilities
  • Prepare bid sourcing events, evaluate bid proposals, and issue purchase orders.
  • Confer with University departments regarding requirements, specifications, and deliveries.
  • Advise departments on purchasing policies and procedures and provides vendor sources.
  • Review and research purchasing requests.
  • May involve direct contact with vendors/suppliers.
  • Analyze, review, and approve contracts
  • May train and guide technical/clerical support staff.
  • Comply with and maintain knowledge of rules, legislations, regulations, standards, and best practices.
  • Other special projects and duties as assigned.


Qualifications
Minimum Qualification:
  • A Bachelor's degree in a relevant field plus two years of experience; OR six years of direct customer service experience in a similar role will also be considered; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.


The successful candidate must have the following competencies:
  • Customer Focus: Candidate must be dedicated to meeting and exceeding the expectations and requirements of our customers. Acts with customer in mind and establishes and maintains effective relationships to gain their trust and respect.
  • Communication Skills: Demonstrate self-management skills and effectively communicate work status, issues, risks, problems, and any underlying process problems to the team and departments.
  • Establish and Maintain Interpersonal Relationships: Must possess the ability to work with various personalities and maintain good relations with the various USU departments. Must be able to work effectively and calmly with short deadlines and situational conflicts.
  • Organizational Skills: Must demonstrate the ability to prioritize, multi-task, and problem solve. Strong attention to detail and excellent proof-reading skills.
  • Problem Solving: Ability to analyze information and evaluate results to select the best solution and solve problems.
