Organizational Unit Overview
The Office of Admissions is the primary point of contact for a traditional first year student, transfer, or non-traditional adult student seeking admission to East Carolina University. The office is responsible for identifying and recruiting potential applicants with outstanding academic ability and potential and assisting in the application process to completion.
Job Duties
The Associate Director of Transfer serves as a member of the leadership team and oversees the development and implementation of strategic recruitment for transfer students by actively participating in recruitment initiatives targeting prospective transfer students to meet recruitment and enrollment goals of the University. This position supervises travel recruitment counselors and administrative staff. This position acts as a liaison and point of contact between the Office of Admissions and University partners and is a knowledgeable resource for inquiries regarding the admissions process for transfer students at East Carolina University. The Associate Director of Transfer facilitates a seamless transfer experience in the application process and ultimate decision to enroll at East Carolina University and will consistently exhibit service, collaboration, and excellence.

50% Manages and oversees all transfer recruiting operations of the Office of Admissions:

  • Under the direction of the Senior Associate Director of Admissions, develop and implement a strategic recruitment plan to meet enrollment goals for transfer students
  • Lead the planning and implementation of all transfer recruitment events held on, off campus and virtually
  • Stay abreast of national and regional student policy, trends, and research specific to transfer students and serve as a strong advocate for the transfer student
  • Develop and monitor a comprehensive transfer territory management plan with the transfer travel recruitment team
  • Design and implement data analysis strategy to trace transfer recruitment activities and establish predictive models
  • Serve as the lead and liaison for the Pirate Promise program
  • Become proficient in the transfer credit processes, advisement processes, Degree Works, and articulation agreements, as they pertain to new students with transfer credit
  • Develop communication plans in coordination with marketing and the Senior Associate Director of Admissions that involve recruiting and yielding of transfer students (including emails, print publications, text messages, website content, digital ads, etc.) to increase application submissions and generate interest in East Carolina University from prospective students and advisors at two-year institutions
  • Collaborate with various East Carolina University departments and colleges to develop best practices for engaging and welcoming the transfer student


40% Assist and lead transfer enrollment management initiatives in the Office of Admissions:

  • Build relationships with representatives at in-state and out-of-state community colleges; gain an understanding of the enrollment history from each East Carolina University respective college
  • Oversee targeted transfer recruitment, yield; identify prospective transfer students and determine the most effective communication strategy
  • Manage list of transfer articulation agreements with East Carolina University and other universities; collaborate with academic colleagues to create articulation agreements for transfer pathways
  • Represent the university to prospective transfer students by communicating with various audiences; counsel students and families, make decisions about appropriate follow-up; present positive and professional image of East Carolina University; develop systems and processes that creates a smooth transition
  • Perform assessment and evaluation of programs by providing information to the Senior Associate Director of Admissions on student evaluation of programs; gather attendance data, budget information, etc.; provide reports; provide direction and suggestions on programming and recruitment efforts for transfer students based on information and data gathered
  • Travel to and recruit undergraduate transfer students by attending community/technical college visits, college fairs, and other transition services programs and events while documenting contact with prospective transfer students throughout the admissions process

10% Promoting staff development and training by:

  • Providing leadership and setting a high standard of professionalism for the Office of Admissions by providing a high-quality customer service, not only to students and the general public, but also to divisional and university staff
  • Assisting the Senior Associate Director in maintaining a positive, efficient, and productive work environment in the Office of Admissions
  • Serving as a key member of the office leadership team
  • Working to ensure professional development of transfer travel recruitment staff
  • Working to promote good relationships with the University, with all University partners, and University constituents

This position is contingent upon available funding.
Minimum Education/Experience

  • Master's degree.
  • Three years of professional admissions counseling or related academic advising or post-secondary experience.
  • Demonstrated experience supervising others in program initiation, planning development, administration, record-keeping, evaluation, and leadership, including two years in a leadership capacity supervising professional staff.
  • Position requires a valid driver's license or the ability to obtain one within 30 days of the date of hire. A valid driver's license must be maintained as a condition of employment. Ability to rent vehicle.

Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education

  • Demonstrated collaboration skills to involve faculty and staff
  • Advanced understanding of the applications of technology to the functions of the Office of Admissions (e.g. Banner, CRM). Experience in Banner data systems preferred.
  • Knowledge of post-secondary transfer credit practices
