Department Information
The Georgia Tech Athletic Associate (GTAA) sponsors varsity intercollegiate athletics competition in 17 NCAA Division I sports for the Georgia Institute of Technology. We are a proud member of the Atlantic Coast Conference. Steeped in history and success while embracing strategic innovation, our programs compete at the highest level and strive for national championships. Job Summary

Provide mental health and mental performance services to Georgia Tech Athletics student-athletes, as well as consultation with coaches and staff and interdisciplinary collaboration with the athletic medicine team. Provide crisis intervention and case management services, including referrals to psychiatry and assessment. This position will serve as the coordinator of outreach programming and liaison to GTAA Total Person Program. This position will interact on a regular basis with student-athletes, coaches, staff, administration, and the athletic medicine team. This position reports to the Director of Sport Psychology and assists in select administrative duties. This position will supervise Master's level interns and supervise staff employees in the specialty area of outreach.

Responsibilities

Job Duty 1 -
Provide initial screenings/intakes/assessments and individual counseling. Provide individual performance enhancement counseling to student-athletes. Provides case management to connect student-athletes to resources on campus and in the community.

Job Duty 2 -
Maintain thorough clinical documentation.

Job Duty 3 -
Provide crisis intervention and management.

Job Duty 4 -
Provide outreach programming to student-athletes and staff.

Job Duty 5 -
Complete relevant administration duties (e.g. create/review policies and procedures, meeting attendance).

Job Duty 6 -
Provide team psychoeducational sessions on performance enhancement and/or mental wellbeing topics. Give presentations and meet with student-athletes and parents on recruiting visits to provide information about sport psychology services.

Job Duty 7 -
Meet with new and returning student-athletes during pre-participation physicals on a yearly basis. Provide information about sport psychology services, as well as assess mental health functioning and participation clearance via mental health symptom screener administration.

Job Duty 8 -
Work within an interdisciplinary medical team regularly consulting with athletic trainers, physicians, psychiatrists, dieticians, other mental health providers, and strength/conditioning staff. Provide consultations to coaches, administration, and other athletic staff.

Job Duty 9 -
Serve as the lead sport psychology provider for several sports teams. Attend competitions and practices and travels with teams to competitions as able to.

Job Duty 10 -
Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

Educational Requirements
Master's Degree in Counseling, Social Work, Marriage and Family Therapy or related mental health field

Other Required Qualifications
Currently licensed in professional discipline in Georgia or in another state. If licensed in another state, must be able to obtain state of Georgia license within one year.

Required Experience
Two to three years of job related experience

Preferred Qualifications

Additional Preferred Qualifications

  • Fully licensed in the discipline of professional counseling, social work, marriage and family therapy, or other qualified discipline (LPC, LCSW, LMFT, etc.).
  • Experience working with a National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division I student-athlete population.
  • Certified Mental Performance Consultant via Association for Applied Sport Psychology.

Preferred Educational Qualifications

  • PsyD or PhD in Psychology or a related field.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

ABILITIES
Ability to work outside of typical business hours as needed, potentially including but not limited to evenings, weekends and holidays.

SKILLS
This job requires knowledge of computer-based productivity systems; professional, national and state ethical guidelines; mental health issues in higher educations; working with diverse populations and concerns; and successful collaboration with others.
