In this role you will be responsible for providing functional and technical knowledge to projects and assignments pertaining to critical business units in the organization. You will bring both engineering and IT perspective to the services and state of the art solutions provided by the department.

How you will make an impact:

This position will provide functional and technical knowledge to projects and assignments pertaining to critical business units in the organization. This role requires that the candidate bring both engineering and IT perspective to the services and state of the art solutions provided by the department.

Under general direction from supervisor and tech leads the Assistant Engineer will:



  • Plan, coordinate, and perform technical assignments related to software applications in support of the Day Ahead Market Admin, Financial Transmission Right (FTR)/ Annual Reliability Report (ARR) Market, Forecasting, Markets Monitoring and Outage Coordination groups
  • Analyze, design, program, troubleshoot, recommend solutions and implement fixes associated with Market System applications
  • Support the Day Ahead and FTR Market applications as needed
  • Assist in the development of Request for Purchase (RFPs) and evaluation of results
  • Coordinate with consultants and vendors on project deliverables
  • Participate in IT Support activities for one or more business areas
  • Follow the Change Management and Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) policies and procedures during the course of the work



What you need to be successful in this role:

Be a talented Computer Science Engineer or Electrical Power Systems Engineer motivated to contribute to the IT solutions that provide value to our business users. Along with:



  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, electrical engineering or related fields
  • Knowledge or working experience with relational database such as Oracle, Postgres and Microsoft SQL server
  • Knowledge or working experience with Java or Microsoft .Net and associated technologies such as J2EE/Web Technologies, Spring boot, Spring MVC, Hibernate, Apache Struts, Microsoft Web frameworks, XML, JMS, Apache ActiveMQ, Apache Ant, Apache Camel etc.
  • Demonstrated programming skills
  • Excellent analytical, verbal and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work both independently and as a team member
  • Ability to tackle challenging situations
  • Ability to participate in an on-call rotation, once fully trained



Desired not required



  • Market Systems experience within the electric utility industry or programming experience in Electric Utility Industry (highly desirable)
  • Working knowledge of bulk power system operations, energy market operations or optimization algorithms
  • Knowledge or working experience with Kubernetes, DevOps, GitOps, Docker technologies and AWS
  • Experience with the GE Grid (previously ESCA or Alstom Grid) Market Systems
