Job Objective:
The primary role of the Mechanic is to repair, maintain and trouble shoot the many critical pieces of rotation equipment in the Prudhoe Bay area. The position requires an extensive working knowledge of how to completely disassemble/reassemble centrifugal gas compressors, generators, centrifugal pumps, gearboxes, HVAC units, Fin Fans and all other auxiliary equipment associated with rotating equipment. Mechanics are required to lead/oversee all work done by the contract workforce and ensure the projects are completed in a timely manner. They must have in-depth experience with many precision measurement tools and the different forms of machinery alignment. Accurate measurement record keeping, and detailed notes are of the utmost importance. Must be able to work with other trade positions (Instrumentation group, Electrical group, Scaffolding group, etc.) as well as Plant Operations GMT's and properly schedule them into the combined effort project.

Essential Job Responsibilities:

Key Accountabilities:

  • Ability to perform millwright-related work (e.g., repairs) on rotating equipment such as pumps, turbines, compressors, gearboxes, etc.
  • Extensive working knowledge of compressors, pumps, gearboxes and generators, filters, tanks, piping etc.
  • The candidate will be required to work in the field performing other repairs or troubleshooting alone or with others, on gas turbines, pumps, gearboxes, compressors or generators.
  • Dismantle, assemble, move and align, machinery and equipment using hoists, cranes, chain falls, hand tools, power tools, pneumatic and hydraulic tools, micrometers, rules, squares, plumb bobs, dial indicators and/or laser alignment equipment.
  • Read blueprints, schematic drawings and technical documentation to determine proper work procedures.
  • Perform material and machine inspections using precision measuring equipment such as micrometers, rules, calipers, protractors, and torque wrenches.
  • Determine equipment specifications and prepare parts lists for purchasing, consisting of mechanical and hydraulic devices as needed to complete assigned projects.
  • Load, transport, and unload materials, tools, equipment and supplies and perform mechanical repairs as needed.
  • Read blueprints, schematic drawings and technical documentation to determine proper work procedures.
  • Install machinery and equipment according to layout plans, blueprints and other drawings in industrial establishments.
  • Possesses a high degree of attention to detail required to prevent injury to self and others.
  • Assures quality of work and promotes continuous improvement.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 5 years maintenance experience in the oil and gas experience is required.
  • Valid state motor vehicle license to operate mobile equipment to move machinery.
  • Willing and able to work a 12-hour day/night shift with a 2/2 weeks on/off rotational schedule on the North Slope of Alaska
  • Currently reside in, able to relocate to, or willing to commute to Anchorage, AK without company assistance
  • Willing and able to independently lift/carry and otherwise work with items weighing upwards of 50 pounds on a frequent basis
  • Willing and able, with or without reasonable accommodation, to push/pull on wrenches, tools, carts, pry-bars, etc. with upwards of 150-foot pounds of force
  • Willing and able, with or without reasonable accommodation, to swing 4-pound hammers and 8-16-pound sledge hammers
  • Willing and able to work in a variety of postures and positions throughout the work period to include supine, kneeling, squatting, bending and crawling, as well as working in tight confines
  • Willing and able to independently transition to and from the ground without the aid of a stationary object for support and sustain prolonged periods of standing and walking on hard surfaces as well as steel grating, snow, ice and mud
  • Willing and able, with or without reasonable accommodation, to routinely climb stairs and ladders to extended heights
  • Willing and able, with or without reasonable accommodation, to work at extremes of heat and cold, in high noise areas and with dust and fumes
  • Willing and able, to help other plants and field techs when they need help.

Education Requirements:

  • Required: educational background normally acquired through a High School degree or GED or an equivalent combination of relevant education and/or experience.
