Job Summary
Under the general supervision of the Research Operations Manager, this position serves as a team leader, overseeing the day-to-day This position will work with faculty, trainees, and staff located on both the Davis and Sacramento campuses in the Department of Internal Medicine, Research and Administration Support (RAS) Unit. This position serves as a key pre-award and compliance expert in University Policy and Procedure for grants, contracts, and financial and personnel procedures as they relate to intramural and extramural funding. Position independently gathers, manages, and analyzes award data from a variety of revenue streams, including federal grants, private grants, gifts, and other funding sources. Responsible for monitoring and maintaining research data associated with the research awards. Required skills include broad knowledge and experience in budget preparation, analysis, and forecasting with the ability to control complex budgets. - Bachelor's degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training.
- Must have at least 3 years of experience in research administration.
- Advanced experience in pre-award processes, coordinating and executing grant and contract submissions across various funding agencies.
- Advanced knowledge of research administration guidelines and budget preparation for both Federal and non-federal sponsors, including private funding agencies, preferably in a university setting.
- Advanced organizational skills to manage priorities, deadlines, and a high volume of transactions independently.
- Proficiency with electronic grant applications such as eRA Commons, MyNCBI, CayuseSP, Cayuse424, ProposalCentral, FastLane, and other online portals.
- Strong proofreading and editing skills, especially for scientific data and research grant proposals.
- Ability to interpret and comply with University, State, and Federal guidelines related to contract and grant applications.
- Strong analytical skills to independently coordinate complex projects, interacting across internal teams in a matrix structure.
- Networking ability to represent the department and University professionally with external parties.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and conflict resolution ability.
- Proficiency in analyzing financial data and reports to draw meaningful conclusions quickly.
- Adaptability to changing priorities and workload demands, with the ability to make logical decisions independently.
- Commitment to confidentiality, discretion, quality assurance, and process improvement.
- Excellent customer service skills, demonstrating tact, patience, and courtesy.

Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in related field or equivalent experience/training.
- Leadership or Supervisory experience.
- Knowledge of higher education research and fund accounting.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to define problems, formulate logical conclusions, recognize alternatives, and make recommendations.
- Proficiency in analyzing data and reports to draw meaningful conclusions.
- Ability to work effectively with changing priorities and demanding workloads, making logical decisions independently.
- Commitment to maintaining confidentiality and exercising discretion in judgment.
- Strong organizational skills to manage multiple projects simultaneously, set priorities, and meet deadlines.
- Experience with University financial information systems such as Aggie Enterprise (Oracle), Aggie Expense (Concur), Kuali, UC Path, Ecotime, Decision Support, etc.

Department Overview The nationally recognized UC Davis Department of Internal Medicine delivers exceptional health care for adults throughout Northern California. Based in Sacramento, we maintain a primary care and affiliate network that spans 33 counties in the Central Valley, the Sierra Nevada foothills, and the High Sierra. We focus on preventing illness - but when it occurs, we offer specialized and advanced services to diagnose and treat various conditions accurately.
All of our nearly 300 care providers are board-certified primary care physicians of internal medicine. Because our academic physicians also conduct research and teach medical students, residents, and fellows, patients benefit from the latest medical knowledge.
