Berkeley Lab's Physics Division has an opening for a Postdoctoral Fellow within the Cosmic Microwave Background (CMB) Group. The group has a long history of designing, fielding and analyzing data from CMB experiments. We are building on this experience to ensure the success of current and future CMB experiments. Members of the group have a wide range of expertise from data analysis to instrumentation and are involved in the following CMB experiments: CMB-S4, Simons Observatory and BICEP/Keck.

What You Will Do:



  • Work on analysis methodology, data analysis and design optimisation/forecasting for current and future CMB experiments;
  • Interact with LBNL and other investigators working on similar or related scientific problems;
  • Prepare research papers for publication;
  • Present research findings at seminars and conferences.



What is Required:



  • Ph.D. in Physics, Astronomy, or related field
  • Demonstrated research experience in experimental or observational cosmology (this may include experience as a graduate student).


  • Ability to work collaboratively, both in the group environment and in larger projects involving multiple collaborating institutions
  • Excellent written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills

Notes:



  • This is a full time, M-F, exempt from overtime pay (monthly paid), 2-year postdoctoral appointment with the possibility of renewal based upon satisfactory job performance, continuing availability of funds, and ongoing operational needs. You must have less than 3 years of paid postdoctoral experience.
  • Salary for Postdoctoral positions depends on years of experience post-degree and predetermined based on postdoctoral step rates.
  • This position is represented by a union for collective bargaining purposes.
  • The monthly salary range for this position is $ 5,562 - $6,670 and is expected to start at $6,317 or above. Postdoctoral positions are paid on a step schedule per union contract and salaries will be predetermined based on postdoctoral step rates. Each step represents one full year of completed post-Ph.D. postdoctoral experience.
  • This position may be subject to a background check. Any convictions will be evaluated to determine if they directly relate to the responsibilities and requirements of the position. Having a conviction history will not automatically disqualify an applicant from being considered for employment.
  • Work will be primarily performed at Lawrence Berkeley National Lab, 1 Cyclotron Road, Berkeley, CA.
