Halff has an opening for a Civil Engineer Intern (EI) to join our Transportation/Roadway team in our Tallahassee, FL location. The ideal candidate will bring Civil Engineering experience with a focus in Transportation / Roadway through Internships, jobs in the consulting industry, and/or experience working with, or for, public sector clients. We will provide oversight and mentorship to further advance the candidates career development. The candidate should demonstrate ownership and eagerness to learn and develop. Halff's Transportation services safely move people, vehicles and freight using multimodal applications ranging from roadways (local roads to interstate highways), transit and active transportation projects from initial planning through final design. The complete project development process includes responsive planning and design such as geometrics and storm drainage. It incorporates technology and Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) to relay roadway information and communication. Finally, it brings transit planning and design to the forefront.

Roadway Engineer (EI) - Transportation Essential Job Functions/Responsibilities:


  • Works under a Professional Engineer (PE) Transportation Team Leader in the development of roadway design projects
  • Works closely with the other design staff, consultants, and clients to deliver projects that contribute to the growth and safety of Florida roadways
  • Works on multiple transportation projects in support of business needs
  • Assists in development and management of project scopes, budgets, and schedules
  • Reviews transportation designs and detailed plans for accuracy and consistency


Roadway Engineer (EI) - Transportation Requirements:


  • Bachelor's Degree or Master's Degree in Civil Engineering or ABET accredited equivalent Engineering degree
  • Engineer Intern (EI) in the State of Florida, or able and willing to obtain within 6 months of start date
  • A minimum of 0 to 2 years of experience in transportation project delivery
  • MicroStation (or AutoCAD) experience
  • Understand basic roadway design (roadway design manual, AASHTO)
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
  • A positive attitude, be self-directed yet a team player, and have a focus on quality, integrity and success.
  • Experience with Open Roads Designer (ORD) is a plus
