Job Summary

The Assistant Director, Marketing & Events works to create and execute a marketing and events vision on behalf of the Daveler & Kauanui School of Entrepreneurship (DKSOE). Manages and oversees the marketing and outreach campaigns for the school. Works on behalf of the school to showcase school impact, promote programs and events, and connect with internal and external audiences to grow the school's reach and presence. Plans and executes events and functions to build awareness and engagement with school programs. This role plays a key part in supporting data-driven decision-making and demonstrating the impact of programs.

Job Description

Typical duties may include but are not limited to:

  • Participates in the strategic planning for DKSOE marketing and events and assists with developing and implementing the overall departmental strategic plan.
  • Creates and drives compelling student recruitment and outreach campaigns, blending advertising and marketing strategies to showcase the dynamic events, programs, and opportunities at the DKSOE and Rist Institute for Entrepreneurship (RIFE).
  • Uses engaging narratives to connect with various audiences to inspire participation and foster community engagement.
  • Oversees and manages the planning, coordination, and execution of events, camps, competitions, functions, and conferences that involve the DKSOE and RIFE. This includes managing logistics and facilitating seamless operations to ensure successful and impactful experiences.
  • Collects, analyzes, and maintains data on internal DKSOE and RIFE activities and events, ensuring accurate stewardship of information for internal reporting to the University and external reporting for rankings and fundraising efforts.
  • Develops and implements strategies for ongoing outreach and engagement with DKSOE alumni, fostering a strong network that supports mentorship, collaboration, and opportunities for current students and graduates. Organizes events, communications, and initiatives that strengthen alumni relations and encourage their continued involvement in the school's mission.
  • Oversees and guides the work of staff in the assigned area while also providing training and development to enhance workforce competence, employee engagement, and organizational capability.
  • Develops, manages, and monitors budgets for events, programs, and initiatives, ensuring fiscal responsibility and alignment with organizational goals. Forecasts and tracks expenditures and optimizes budget efficiency to support the successful execution of all responsibilities.
  • Ensures all mandatory reporting for the DKSOE and RIFE is completed consistently and accurately.
  • Establishes performance goals and measures to evaluate success of assigned area of responsibility.
  • Participates in formulating and implementing policies and procedures.
  • Interviews, hires, trains, and evaluates staff to ensure adequate staffing within budget.

Additional Job Description

Required Qualifications:

  • This position requires either eight years of directly related full-time experience or, as an alternative, a Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in an appropriate area of specialization and four years of full-time experience directly related to the job functions.
  • Professional full-time experience in marketing, communications, graphic design, public relations, or other relevant experience.
  • Experience operating a personal computer and proficient with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Publisher, and Outlook).
  • Any appropriate combination of relevant education, experience, and/or certifications may be considered.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's Degree from an accredited institution in marketing, communications or related field.
  • Professional full-time experience in marketing, communications, graphic design, public relations, or other relevant experience.
  • Experience with audio or multi-media production, communications or marketing project management, event planning and execution, writing, or social media design.
  • Experience working in higher education.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of marketing strategies and communication principles.
  • Knowledge of media production, communication, and dissemination techniques and methods, including alternative ways to inform and entertain via written, oral, and visual media.
  • Knowledge of supervisory principles, methods, and techniques.
  • Skill in public speaking and delivering presentations to individuals and groups.
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.
  • Skill in identifying complex problems and reviewing related information to develop and evaluate options and implement solutions.
  • Strong organizational skills and an ability to prioritize and complete simultaneous projects within deadlines.
  • Ability to work successfully as both a member of a team and independently with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to take initiative to plan, organize, coordinate and perform work in various situations when numerous and diverse demands are involved.
  • Ability to operate personal computers with proficiency and learn new applications and systems.
  • Ability to effectively manage the work of others by providing information, guidance, and motivation.
  • Ability to develop and implement policies, procedures, goals, and objectives.
  • Ability to thrive in an organization that values the diversity of its student body and workforce and actively promotes an equitable environment.
