The Opportunity

The Department of Anthropology in the College of Sciences (COS) at the University of Central Florida (UCF) invites applications for a 9-month, tenure-earning assistant professor in medical anthropology, anticipated to begin August 2025.

The successful candidate will be expected to teach undergraduate and graduate courses in cultural

anthropology and medical anthropology. The successful candidate will be expected to teach in different modalities including face-to-face and online. Geographical research area is open. We are especially interested in an individual who can contribute through their research, teaching, and service to the excellence of our academic community and foster an environment in which faculty, staff, and students from a variety of backgrounds, cultures, and personal experiences are welcomed and can thrive.

The Department of Anthropology currently includes 19 full-time faculty who are committed to innovative teaching at the B.A., M.A., and Ph.D. levels. Anthropology faculty demonstrate significant scholarly research, collaborative community partnership development, and active professional organization involvement. We value collegiality and promote interdisciplinary and collaborative endeavors. Since our only major launched in 2017, it has been recognized by multiple media outlets as one of the best online anthropology programs in the country. This includes a #1 ranking from Successful Student, and a #2 ranking from Best Colleges in 2019 for best online anthropology program.

Minimum Qualifications:


  • A doctorate in anthropology or a closely related discipline with a specialization in medical anthropology from an accredited institution by time of hire is required.

  • The successful candidate will have the ability to teach in different modalities including face-to-face and online.


Preferred Qualifications:


  • Demonstrate the ability to teach undergraduate and graduate courses in cultural anthropology and medical anthropology, as well as oversee an existing undergraduate global health certificate.

  • The ideal candidate will have a successful research program that includes peer-reviewed publications, a record of external funding, and the ability to advise and mentor graduate students.

  • Preferred research specializations in population health science, demography, public health, community health, or global health.

  • Demonstrates experience contributing to a methodological focus by teaching classes such as qualitative, quantitative, GIS, and/or mixed methods.
