Pediatric Trauma Surgery Data Manager (Part-time)

Position Summary
At Stony Brook Medicine, a TH Staff Associate/Trauma Surgery Data Manager is a valuable member of our team, who will be responsible for data capture and quality improvement activities related to the American College of Surgery (ACS) National Trauma Database (NTDB) registry, the ACS Trauma Quality Improvement Program (TQIP) registry, and the New York State Department of Health (NYSDOH) Trauma data registry. The primary focus of these registries is to improve outcomes for patients undergoing trauma surgery procedures at Stony Brook University Hospital as well as to meet requirements to remain a NYS designated trauma center. Qualified candidates will demonstrate superior patient care and possess outstanding communication skills while adhering to our high standard of excellence.
Duties of a TH Staff Associate/Trauma Surgery Data Manager may include the following but are not limited to:


  • Continually analyze new and revised specifications for the ACS NTDB, ACS TQIP, and NYSDOH Trauma registries and develop a comprehensive understanding of reporting requirements. Educate QMA, QI, Trauma Surgery, IT, and Clinical Transformation regarding potential impact on workflow requirements.
  • Perform gap analysis to identify trauma registry data elements not currently captured in the legal medical record. Collaborate with IT and Pediatric Trauma Surgery to develop mechanisms for capturing these data.
  • Perform hybrid medical record review, validation, and other clinical data abstraction activities as necessary to support external quality reporting and quality improvement activities.
  • Provide guidance to Pediatric Trauma Surgery regarding areas of variance with guidelines as demonstrated by the registries. This includes preparation of basic reports.
  • Actively participate in data-driven quality improvement activities.
  • Provide guidance and support on clinical topics to other QMA personnel, QI, and other analytical and clinical departments.
  • Generate ad-hoc reports and perform ad-hoc responsibilities as deemed appropriate by the Assistant Director of Quality Measurement & Analytics.
  • Maintain awareness of institutional quality priorities and work collaboratively with colleagues in Quality Measurement & Analytics, the Quality Division, IT, clinical and ancillary services, and hospital leadership to accomplish organizational goals.



Qualifications
Required:

  • Bachelor's Degree
  • Registered Nurse with 3 or more years recent Pediatric nursing experience in a trauma center.
  • Recent PICU, Pediatric ED experience or prior registry experience.
  • Ability to analyze and interpret information in a medical record.
  • Project management skills and the ability to work independently as well as collaboratively with diverse populations of healthcare workers is critical.
  • Basic computer skills including spreadsheet and word processing are also required.
  • Demonstrated ability to grow and adapt in a changing environment.



Preferred:



  • Clinical chart review and abstraction experience and ability.
  • Performance improvement experience and ability.
  • Intermediate experience with Excel.
  • Experience interpreting and complying with requirements of regulatory and/or accrediting agencies.
  • Skill in presenting information to a variety of audiences.
  • Experience in collaborative design of electronic health record components.
  • Relevant experience may be considered in lieu of these qualifications.

  • Successfully complete a 4 panel drug screen*
  • Meet Regulatory Requirements for pre-employment screenings.
  • Provide a copy of any required New York State license(s)/certificate(s).

Anticipated Pay Range:

The starting salary range (or hiring range) for this position is - $45000- $53000 / year.

The above salary range represents SBUH's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. The specific salary offer will be based on the candidate's validated years of comparable experience. Any efforts to inflate or misrepresent experience are grounds for disqualification from the application process or termination of employment if hired.
