1L Summer Associate Overview The Orrick 1L Summer Associate position is a unique opportunity for a highly qualified 1L student to gain valuable experience at a leading law firm. * You will be a full member of Orrick's 2025 Summer Associate Program and compensated as an Orrick Summer Associate. * This position is open to any of Orrick's US offices. * Orrick partner sponsors will oversee your work assignments, networking opportunities, and career coaching. * You may have the option to return to Orrick for your 2L summer. The option is contingent upon work performance during the 1L summer and continued academic excellence during your 2L year. Application Process * The firm is looking for entrepreneurial, determined and engaged students with strong academic credentials and a demonstrated interest in litigation, corporate, regulatory, energy & infrastructure, and finance practice areas. Responsibilities
Responsibilities, Training and Events As an Orrick 1L Summer Associate, our goal is to provide you with a meaningful and rewarding summer experience. * You will do substantive work, spanning a wide breadth of assignments across Orrick's varied practice groups and offices. * You will be provided with opportunities to gain a better understanding of the practice of law -including the potential to shadow attorneys - and participate in national and local trainings, including workshops on improving your legal writing skills and how to become a more effective speaker. * Our summer program also hosts unique programming and events designed to help you get to better know your fellow Summer Associates and Orrick attorneys, including local office and national social programming. Past programming has included classes on making sushi, charcuterie boards, and candles, attending baseball games, canoeing, sailing, beach cycling, karaoke, Top Golf, bowling, and chocolate tastings.
Qualifications
Applicants must be current 1Ls (class of 2027) pursuing a JD at an ABA-accredited law school. 1Ls attending a part-time program or pursuing a JD/MBA degree at an ABA-accredited law school, who are not graduating in 2027, are also eligible. Compensation and Benefits The expected gross salary for this position is $4,326.92/week.
Orrick is committed to providing a comprehensive, competitive, and thoughtful total compensation package to our attorneys and staff, wherever they work. This compensation and benefits information is based on the Orrick's estimate as of the date of publication and may be modified in the future. The level of pay within the range will depend on a variety of job-related factors that may include, but not limited to, qualifications, relevant experience or education, particular skills or expertise, geography. Other compensation may include an annual discretionary merit bonus, which would be determined by Firm and individual performance.
