Position Overview The Senior Facilities Engineer is responsible for overseeing and managing design aspects of facilities infrastructure, which includes, but not limited to, developing and managing the master plans and standards for current and future facilities systems. This role will lead collaboration efforts with internal and external partners to procure, install, commission, and maintain equipment, as well as implement hardware and software improvements to improve performance. The Senior Facilities Engineer identifies the best system architecture, develops equipment and instrumentation requirements, and monitors performance of systems. This role will mentor and assist in the development of other team members and help define and establish industry best practices across the team and organization. Essential Duties Include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Develop and maintain system master plans that outline strategies for expansion, upgrade, and maintenance of facilities systems.
- Create statements of work, perform engineering calculations to size equipment, solicit and evaluate vendor proposals, manage the procurement and contract process, and oversee technical aspects of installations or modifications to mechanical, electrical, plumbing, refrigeration, building automation, and fire-protection systems based on stakeholders' input and in collaboration with internal and external partners.
- Support existing facility systems; including, but not limited to, hands-on troubleshooting, system set up and adjustment, integration of new equipment, repair, planned maintenance, and performance monitoring.
- Maintain and enhance building automation systems to ensure performance continually meets environmental requirements and root cause analysis results in the elimination of system-driven excursions; manage the system to provide meaningful warning of system or equipment failure and eliminate nuisance alarms.
- Monitor building systems operation for energy usage, identify, develop, and justify improvements, and implement as approved.
- Perform engineering calculations to troubleshoot system operation and implement corrective actions to improve reliability and performance.
- Participate in all aspects of project delivery from inception to turnover in accordance with accepted project management principles and internal engineering practices.
- Develop and maintain documentation necessary to ensure consistent, high-quality projects; including, but not limited to, record drawings, standard operating procedures, user requirements, design specifications, component specifications and selection, and commissioning protocols.
- Process revision changes on qualified systems following change control requirements; write and manage change requests and change orders for facilities systems.
- Lead or participate in investigations and troubleshooting associated with internal review, Corrective and Preventive Actions (CAPA), audits, or complaints.
- Mentor other team members and help establish industry best practices.
- Manage building commissioning; design commissioning plans, perform functional tests, and contract with and manage third-party vendors for larger projects.
- Identify and evaluate facilities software, components, and systems for the enhancement of facility operations.
- Establish and track key performance indicators that measure the health of the systems and proactively identify failure modes.
- Apply engineering knowledge to lead and assist in the consolidation of project requirements and data for interface with functional specialist on cross-functional teams, to ensure stakeholder understanding of trade-offs amongst cost, schedule, quality, and risk.
- Build and maintain relationships with internal stakeholders to identify improvement opportunities and enhance operations.
- Strong communication skills and ability to communicate effectively across all organizational levels, as well as with external suppliers.

- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds for approximately 5% of a typical working day.
- Ability to comply with any applicable personal protective equipment requirements.
- Ability to climb ladders and effectively access equipment and areas of buildings that include traversing unlevel surfaces and entering hot, cold, dirty, dusty, and loud environments.
- Ability and means to travel between Madison locations.
- Ability to travel 10% of working time away from work location, may include overnight/weekend travel.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or field as outlined in the essential duties.
- 8+ years of experience in an engineering role designing, commissioning, or optimizing facility systems; including, but not limited to, HVAC, plumbing, electrical, fire, and refrigeration.
- Demonstrated proficiency of control systems design, administration, and best engineering practices.
- Demonstrated ability to review designs or systems and provide valuable feedback to design teams, vendors, or maintenance teams to ensure systems are built and operated in an efficient, reliable, and maintainable way while balancing first cost and operational cost.
- Proficient with using PDF editors and Microsoft Office; including, but not limited to, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, and Outlook.
- Demonstrated ability to perform the Essential Duties of the position with or without accommodation.

Preferred Qualifications
- 3+ years as a facilities engineer in a regulated environment.
- 1+ years of experience mentoring and coaching other engineers on technical aspects of facility systems.
- Professional Engineer.
- Experience managing and executing projects of various sizes and scopes and communicating to cross functional stakeholders.
- Experience in an FDA, CLIA, or CAP regulated industry.
- Experience leading cross functional and multi-site projects.
- Experience with building automation software.
- Experience interfacing with regulatory agencies and facilities code officials.

Salary Range: $85,000.00 - $135,000.00
The annual base salary shown is for this position located in US - WI - Madison on a full-time basis. In addition, this position is bonus eligible, and is eligible to receive company stock upon hire as well as annually.
