Cox Enterprises is currently looking for a Corporate Counsel, Commercial Operations to join our team in Atlanta, Georgia.

The Role:

The Corporate Counsel, Commercial Operations will join a dynamic legal team, serving the company's corporate functions and operating businesses. Clients include Cox's Sustainability, Real Estate, and Corporate Services teams, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution and Dayton Daily News. This role reports to the Assistant General Counsel, Commercial Operations, and will act as a strategic legal partner in support of exciting transformation initiatives for these client groups.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide legal counsel and advice on a broad range of day-to-day legal topics involved in business operations.
  • Draft, review, and negotiate diverse types of commercial contracts, including vendor, customer, and other strategic agreements.
  • Advise clients on marketing and sales activities, including consumer protection laws and other media-related compliance.
  • Shape legally compliant practices and products.
  • Act as a strategic advisor to the business by efficiently minimizing legal risks while supporting the company's business and strategic objectives.
  • Identify and address issues proactively and implement solutions in the context of commercial activities.
  • Build strong relationships and effectively collaborate with business colleagues and other in-house attorneys.
  • Manage outside counsel and other external parties.
  • Identify and implement resources to enhance client service and optimize use of legal resources, including training and efficiency improvements.
  • Respond and adapt to changing conditions or circumstances, which may require enterprise alignment and new approaches.
  • Other responsibilities as needed or required.


Qualifications:

  • Juris doctor (JD) from an accredited law school and active license to practice law.
  • 6+ years of experience as a practicing attorney, with a focus on commercial and business operations legal matters.
  • Ability to balance legal risks with business objectives to deliver solutions.
  • Strong skills and experience in interpreting, drafting, and negotiating a variety of commercial contracts.
  • Experience advising on digital advertising and sales, media and content, and subscription products.
  • Ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams and legal subject matter experts.
  • Ability to explain complex issues and risks in a clear manner.
  • Ability to organize, prioritize, manage, and follow through on numerous projects simultaneously to meet deadlines.
  • Experience managing outside counsel.
  • Adaptable and comfortable with uncertainty and ambiguity.
  • Excellent judgement and analytical skills.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Mix of law firm and In-house experience.
  • Experience supporting sustainability, environmental, and/or real estate matters.


USD 156,200.00 - 260,400.00

Compensation:

Compensation includes a base salary of $156,200.00 - $260,400.00. The base salary may vary within the anticipated base pay range based on factors such as the ultimate location of the position and the selected candidate's knowledge, skills, and abilities. Position may be eligible for additional compensation that may include an incentive program.

Benefits:

The Company offers eligible employees the flexibility to take as much vacation with pay as they deem consistent with their duties, the company's needs, and its obligations; seven paid holidays throughout the calendar year; and up to 160 hours of paid wellness annually for their own wellness or that of family members. Employees are also eligible for additional paid time off in the form of bereavement leave, time off to vote, jury duty leave, volunteer time off, military leave, parental leave, and COVID-19 vaccination leave.
